Wet cat and dog food is a demanding fill: high in protein and fat, sterilised inside the can, and opened by the consumer. We plan the can, its internal coating and its easy-open end around exactly that.
What we pay technical attention to
Internal lacquer for protein-rich fills
High-protein, sulphur-bearing recipes can stain bare tinplate; we select a lacquer system suited to the recipe.
Retort resistance
The can and its coating are chosen to withstand in-can sterilisation (retort).
Double-seam integrity
The bottom double seam is controlled for a leak-free, hermetic closure.
Easy-open end
The consumer-facing easy-open end is matched for a reliable, comfortable opening force.
Corrosion behaviour
Material and coating are reviewed for the moisture and fats the product carries over shelf life.
Common issues and our technical support
Sulphur staining
Protein-rich recipes can darken uncoated tinplate. We recommend a sulphur-resistant internal lacquer for the recipe.
Seam leakage
A leak usually traces back to seam settings. We review double-seam dimensions and closing on your line.
Deformation after retort
Rigidity beads and wall spec are matched to the process so the body holds its shape through sterilisation.
Opening force
Too tight or too easy an open is a scoring/end issue; we match the easy-open end to a comfortable, safe force.
